Walk The Plank Pirate Birthday Game Supplies
- One piece of wood size about 1′x 8′.
- 4 pieces of 12″x 4″ wood.
- Nails and hammer.
- Acrylic Paint in blue, dark blue, white colors.
- Clean concrete floor, like a garage floor, that you don’t mind painted (or just use blue shimmery fabric)
- Bandanas.
- Stuffed or plastic animals like crocodiles, sharks, star fish, octopus, etc.

Walk The Plank Pirate Birthday Game Directions

Step 1. Nail down the 4 pieces of wood to the bottom of the plank so that the plank is a bit elevated from the floor. If you don’t have pieces of wood try to find leftover wood that could also do the job. Do not to elevate the plank too high in case of falls, injuries, etc. It only needs to be elevated a few inches from the floor.
Step 2. Clean off your garage floor with water and sponge to get rid of any dust or sand particles. Let dry. (Skip Step 2-5 if using blue shimmery fabric as your ocean floor).
Step 3. Mix dark blue acrylic paint with some water to make the paint liquid and fluid. Paint on as the base and bottom layer of the ocean. Let dry.
Step 4. Do the same with the lighter blue paint once the darker blue has dried. Try to now add in swirls like the ocean. Let dry.
Step 5. For the final paint color use white acrylic paint to add in the ocean waves and foam. Let dry completely for a few hours. Acrylic paint dries quickly and I did this only 30 minutes before the Pirate party began.
Step 6. Add in the ocean creatures on the side of the plank to make the game more fun like crocodiles, sharks, Kraken octopus, shells, etc.
How To Play the Walk the Plank Pirate Game
- Divide guests into groups.
- Blind fold each guest and challenge them to walk the length of the “plank” without falling off.
- The object if for the team to score the most points. The more challenging the task, the more points awarded.
- The one with the most points gets the prize. Prizes could be candy, gold coins, or any small trinkets. For adults, perhaps a special pirate grog, necklaces, pirate rings, etc.
Awarding Points:
- (+5 points) – For reaching the end of the plank without falling,
- (+20 points) – For completing the task of hopping on one foot all the way from one end of the plank to the other.
- (+30 points) – For walking backwards all the way.
- (-1 point) – Deduction for one foot touching the ocean.
- (loose a turn) – When falling off the plank completely.
Add your own challenges or let the guests add their own challenges to make it fun. My daughter loves gymnastics so she had a challenge to do a cartwheel on the plank!
