Tissue Flower Centerpieces – Party Decorations
||To add some color to our party table recently, we created large paper tissue flower centerpieces for an instant indoor fairy theme. This versatile flower decoration can be easily used to decorate any theme party such as a tea party, baby shower, birthday party or ladies theme party. Not only is this easy to make it is also affordable too since it is completely made out of paper, bit of felt and a recyclable milk carton! Yes, you can do it too! See how we did this…|
DIY Flower Tissue Paper Centerpiece: Supplies
To make 1 Flower Centerpiece :
- 1 empty, clean milk carton
- Tissue paper in various colors – for flowers
- Tissue paper or paper napkin in lime green color – to cover milk carton
- 1/4 yard green felt
- Hot glue gun
- Floral wire, pipe cleaners or curling ribbon (to tie center of flower)
- Sharp knife or utility knife
DIY Flower Tissue Paper Centerpiece: Directions
Step 1. - Pictured here are a few of the supplies needed. A clean milk carton and tissue paper.
Step 2. – Using a sharp kitchen knife, I cut the milk carton in half. Discard the top of the milk carton since you will be only needing the bottom section, which I will be calling “the milk carton box” – for lack of a better word!
Step 3. Next, we opened up several lime green paper napkins and covered our milk carton box with them. Hot glue gun is used to glue the napkin to the box. However, since the napkin is so thin, the printing of the milk carton showed through so I had to layer it twice.
Step 4. After the second layer, the milk carton box is starting to look much better.
Step 5. Cut out 16 leaves from the green felt fabric. The leaves don’t have to look perfect or even. So 4 leaves per side, 4 x 4 =16 leaves needed for one box. If you are making several boxes at a time, multiply the number of boxes by 16 to get the total leaf count you need.
Step 6. Next, glue the leaves to the top rim of the box. I managed to get 4 leaves per side. Layer the leaves at random and secure with hot glue. It’s OK and more natural if the leaves overlap. Your bottom part of your flower box is done. Set aside.
Step 7. Grab several (5-6) layers of tissue paper and start folding in an accordion fold from one end until the other end.
Step 8. Use a piece of floral wire, curling ribbon, pipe cleaner or anything you have handy to secure the center in place.
Step 9. Using scissors, snip off the corners on both sides of the folded accordion strip so that you end up with rounded ends (see picture).
Step 10. Now start opening up and unfolding the layers one by one. Go slow and gentle as it may be difficult at times especially if you have lots of tissue layers to begin with. Don’t worry if the paper tears. It won’t show as everything will be hidden in all the layers.
Step 11. Once all the layers are unfolded, you end up with a beautiful, large full flower.
Step 12. Hot glue the large tissue flower onto the lime green box. Fluff up the flowers and make sure the leaves are somewhat visible. Place the large flower centerpieces on the table in the center as a single standalone centerpiece or place them in a row like we did for our Tinkerbell party with the cake in the center! Enjoy and let me know how that turns out!
