Science Party Fun: Egg Bridge
![]() |
Here is a fun activity and challenge that kids could try at a Science Party. Give each child a set of supplies, and see who can design a suspension bridge that can support the weight of an egg. So best to do this activity outdoors (grass is ideal) or indoors over a towel. |

Science Experiment: Egg On A Bridge
- 20 straws
- 10 pieces of tape
- Towel
- Raw Egg
- Ruler
- Timer

Science Experiment: Egg On A Bridge
Step 1. Kids should design their own bridge using the straws with the limited resources and time available. By doing this experiment or science activity, they learn the laws of gravity, physics and mechanics. Give them 5-10 minutes to construct their bridge. Older kids need less time, so depending on the age of the kids at your Science Party adjust the time accordingly.

Step 2. When the time is up, see whose bridge is (a) able to hold up an egg, and (b) who has the highest measured bridge. Award prizes for different categories so no one is disappointed, like tallest, longest standing, most creative, wackiest bridge, etc.

Take this further:
- Try introducing weather elements, like a tornado (hair dryer) and see which bridge holds up.
- Try introducing a hurricane (spray bottle) or worse, a sprinkler!
- … and what about an earthquake? This should create some fun as kids tap the table (or place it on a running dryer) and see which bridge holds up!
