Mad hatter Spools of Thread Dessert

This Mad Hatter Party Treat is a favorite of the Mad Hatter in Alice in Wonderland. Carrying a sash of spools around him, we figured he has this “thing” for spools. Here we have made a spool themed treat for him out of peanut butter cookies, pretzel rods and red strawberry licorice which would be perfect if you planning an Alice in Wonderland Party. Alice in Wonderland Party : Mad Hatter Spools of Thread Dessert
- Pretzel rods
- Nabisco Nutter Butter Cookie Bites
- Icing white or dyed the color of the cookies
- Haribo Strawberry Wheels Licorice
Alice in Wonderland: Mad Hatter Spools of Thread Dessert Directions
Step 1. Shown here are a few of the supplies needed – pretzel rods, licorice wheels, and butter nutter cookies.
Step 2. Cut the pretzel rods into 2″ pieces with a serrated knife. Split open Butter Nutter cookies and scrape off excess icing. Use white or colored (to match) icing to secure the two cookies to the ends of the small rods. (See Picture). As you can see I did not color the icing at the beginning however subsequent spools got the dyed-to-match icing. (Not shown but looked much better than these!).
Step 3. Unroll the licorice and wrap around the spools of thread. If you are having trouble keeping the licorice wrapped around the rods, detach the cookie ends, wrap the spool in foil and toast on medium for a few minutes. Let cool completely before unwrapping the foil. Attach the cookies at each end with extra icing.
Step 4. Let the icing harden and set out on a decorative plate for the Mad Hatter Party.
Step 5. Invite guests to come savor your tasty treats! Enjoy!
