Ladybug Place Mat

Create these adorable ladybug place mats for your next Ladybug Birthday Party. The place mat was created using the oh-so-sweet ladybug plate and felt pieces. A contrasting stitching was used to give the place mat an old fashioned look, however, you could also just use the glue gun to put the pieces together making it an ultra easy party decoration project! Ladybug Party Decor : Place Mat Supplies (1)
- 1/2 yard Lime green felt
- 1/4 yard White felt
- Black embroidery floss thread
- Black permanent marker
- Needle
- Ladybug Dessert Plate
- Scissors

Ladybug Party Decor: Place Mat Directions (1)

Step 1. Place dessert plate on the felt and trace around it with a permanent marker. Notice I used the whole stack of plates still in their wrapper only so I wouldn’t mark up the edges with my permanent marker or dirty the plates.

Step 2. Divide the circle into 8 sections. Place a small piece of paper over one section and trace a leaf shape by hand. Don’t worry if it is not perfect. Leaves come in all shapes and sizes in nature and our place mats will all look different. Cut out the paper leaf section from your paper tracing and then place it on the edge of the circle. With your marker trace out leaves all around the circle. This will be your bottom leaf layer.

Step 3. Cut out the bottom leaf layer with scissors. Cut out another layer by placing the original leaf layer on the green felt and tracing the whole thing again. Cut the second leaf layer out when you are done tracing. You will now have 2 leaf layers.

Step 4. Use the plate (or stack of plates) again to trace out a circle lightly with pencil on the white felt. Again divide the circle into even sections i.e. 16 sections. For each section, draw out a flower petal free hand. Cut out. Use the first white flower cutout as a template to trace the remaining white flowers. You will need one white felt flower per place mat.![]()

Step 5. Place two green leaf petals on top of each other, making sure that the leaves alternate and do not cover each other between the layers. Place the white felt flower on top, making sure it is centered. Use black embroidery floss thread to sew the three felt pieces together. Try to make the stitching evenly and close to the edge as possible. (At this point if you want to skip the sewing part, just glue the 3 pieces together with hot glue gun).

Step 6. Once you have sewn the stitching all around the flower edge, you are done. The first flower place mat is ready for the Ladybug plate and Ladybug Birthday Party!
