Chinese Char Siu Pork is marinated roasted pork Char Siu Pork is a favorite ingredient in Chinese cooking because of its delicious sweet, salty taste, and its versatility as an ingredient for soups, meat buns, rice dishes and other main dishes.  Its shiny glaze, achieved by a final coat of honey, gives the char siu extra shine and sweetness.  Char siu has become popular through Chinese immigrants all over, and can now be found in countries like Japan, Hawaii and Malaysia.  In Hawaii it has been adopted as part of the Hawaiian foods and can be often seen at Hawaiian Luau Parties.

Glaze:

  • 2 tablespoon honey for glaze

Step 1. Combine the sugar, liquids and seasonings in a small bowl, and mix well.

Step 2. Pour over the pork and marinate for 6-12 hours.  Turn pork over half way through to soak the other sides as well.

Step 3. Turn oven on to 325 °F.  Place pork in a large roasting pan and bake for 1 hour.  During the baking, baste the pork with a brush repeatedly with the pan drippings.

Step 4. When the pork is cooked, take the pork out of the oven and brush on some honey with a clean brush for the final glaze.  Let cool.

Step 5. Once it has cooled down a bit, slice the pork into thin diagonal strips and place them on a small dish.
