Captain America Cupcakes: Ingredients
Here is what you will need:
- Red fondant
- Blue fondant
- Plain white fondant
- Powdered sugar
- 2 1/2″ diameter round cookie cutter
- 1 1/2″ diameter round cookie cutter
- Small star cookie cutter 1 1/2″ length
- Fondant rolling pin
Captain America Cupcakes: Directions
Step 1. Bake the cupcakes – Use your favorite recipe to make your cupcakes. Let the cupcakes cool, and ice them with frosting. Here is a basic cake and Italian Meringue icing recipe.
Step 2. Fondant circles – Roll out red fondant and with the largest cutter, cut out a fondant circle. I recommend to get the store bought red fondant since it took us quite a bit of red dye to color only a small piece of plain fondant. Same with the blue fondant.
Next, with the smaller 1 1/2″ cutout, cut out a large hole from that red circle fondant. You will end up with something that looks like a red fondant donut.
Blue Fondant – roll out a small piece of blue fondant and with the same small 1 1/2″ circle, cut out a circle of blue fondant.
White Fondant – roll out small amount of white fondant and using a mini star cutter, cut out shape. Use the same star cutter to cut out the center of the round blue fondant circle. Remove the blue fondant star from the center and replace with the white star fondant.
Cupcake Topper Assembly. Gently lift the blue circle fondant with the white star and place in the center of the red round fondant piece (donut).
Use your finger to squish the three pieces together, then with a roller gently roll the topper so that the three parts form a seamless piece. Be careful to not over-roll otherwise the fondant may stretch too much.
Step 4. Place on cupcake. Place each finished fondant topper on a cupcake.
Use the palm of your hand to cup the cupcake from the top so that the edges of the fondant turn down and cover the cupcake edges.
Let the fondant harden and dry for about 30 minutes.
Set out on the party table for the Captain America Birthday Party!
