Breakfast At Tiffany’s Party Ideas

Breakfast at Tiffany Cake Topper
The movie Breakfast at Tiffany’s has been an incredible source of inspiration over the years for many designers, decorators, stylists and event planners.  It is a theme that exudes elegance, sophistication and the signature color “Tiffany blue“.  Recently Mariana Sperb created this beautifully designed Breakfast at Tiffany’s Party for her client that reflected this theme oh-so-perfectly!  The amount of detail that went into this is just amazing!  Have a look…

Breakfast At Tiffany Party

Breakfast At Tiffany Background.

The movie Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961) is about a writer who becomes interested in a young eccentric socialite Holly Golightly (played by Audrey Hepburn) in his apartment building.  Holly, who escaped a poor childhood in the rural South, reinvented herself as a New York socialite.  She surrounds herself with luxury, wears designer clothes and spends her time going to high-class parties and expensive dates.  Some of the accessories she used have become iconic and signature of the “Tiffany” style.  Here are some items that could be incorporated to recreate this look for a theme party:

  • Long cigarette holder.
  • White gloves.
  • Tiffany blue boxes.
  • Strands of white pearls.
  • Tiara.
  • The Little Black Dress.
  • Dark sunglasses.

Breakfast At Tiffany Decorations.

Breakfast at Tiffany's Party - Favors and giftbox with pearls

Party Table Decorations: 1. Brownie pops with custom damask labels in black damask box; Blue M & M candy with custom molded candy / 2. Favor bottles with custom party logo and label  / 3.  Stacked Tiffany blue boxes wrapped in big satin bows and topped with strands of pearls.

  • That Lil’ Black Dress.  The black Givenchy dress worn by Hepburn at the beginning of the film has become one of the most iconic cinematic images till this date.  Mariana Sperb incorporated that black dress feel into her decoration by using black damask, black grosgrain ribbon, black satin ribbons, black chandeliers, and the accents for her cake.  You will note in the below picture that the little girl in the wall mural is also wearing an adorable short black version!
  • Tiffany Blue. The stacked boxes are reminiscent of a luxurious shopping spree at Tiffany’s.  A clever and easy way to add color and decorations without much effort!  Love it!
  • Pearls, pearls, pearls!  You can never have too many pearls!  Audrey Hepburn wore rows upon rows of sumptuous elegant pearls around her graceful neck.  So drape pearls in a few distinct locations as focal points and accents.

Breakfast at Tiffany's Party - Party table setting with chandeliers, balloon backdrop and wall hanging

Party Room and Wall Decorations: 1. Party Room Decorations with Party Table Setting  /  2. Right view of the dessert table with more blue boxes, pearls, black decorative hand mirror, brownie pops, and fondant embossed miniature cakes.

  • Custom Wall Decoration.  This party was created for a darling little girl named Francesca who was celebrating her birthday.  A personalized custom logo of a little girl with a hair bun in a little black dress was created and used throughout the party — on the custom mural, party favor labels, invitations and more.  The logo was framed with a gorgeous large scroll design border and then layered over a white and blue striped background, that anchored the whole room.  Wow, what an impact!
  • Balloon Frame.  Rows and rows of uniform blue and white balloons were setup and then used to frame the backdrop mural.  The white balloons were reminiscent of the repetitive rows of signature pearls draped around Hepburn’s neck and together with the blue balloons created just the right color compliment.  What a creative way to frame your party table!
  • Black Chandeliers.  Several black chandeliers hanging above the table added the necessary drama and accent splash to make this wall decoration complete!

Breakfast At Tiffany Cakes and Desserts

To celebrate this birthday, there was loads of custom cakes, cupcakes, brownie pops, candy covered apples, and dozens of treats to delight the party guests.

  • Dessert Gems. The desserts for this party table were so detailed and beautifully crafted that they reminded me of precious gems.  Check out the flower embossed pattern on the miniature cakes tied with a teenie fondant bow! Too adorable!
  • Sparkling Tiara.  Several tiaras were used as part of the decoration to add sparkle to the table.  An easy way to add a touch of glamour and reminds us of the tiara worn by Audrey Hepburn.
  • Petite Flowers. Dainty flower baskets and cupcakes were created in blue and white fondant flowers to compliment the rest of the party decorations.
  • Heart Dessert. Various desserts were also topped with decorative heart cutouts — signifying the love for the little girl.  Such a special birthday!

{Party Tips Learned}:

  • Decorative Boxes and Tiers.  Use stacked boxes, tiered servers, and tables in various heights to give dimension to your party decorations and to bring your eye closer to all the party details.  By placing objects at various levels, Mariana kept the table interesting, entertaining, and a feast for the “eyes”.
  • Mixing Patterns.  Don’t be afraid to mix and match patterns.  Here various patterns and textures were mixed together — damask, Swiss dot, stripes, and solids.  They all work beautifully well together and formed a cohesive symphony created by the repetition of the three main colors: black, white and blue.
