Apple Crisp
![]() |
Apple Crisp made with freshly picked New England apples topped with locally made Vanilla ice cream is to me the ultimate dessert on a cool Fall night. After a day of apple picking we came home and made this delicious dessert for that evening. My daughter loved turning the apple peeler crank and seeing the tool automatically peel, slice and core the apples in a spiral. She gets a kick out of it and I get some help with making dessert! |

Apple Crisp Ingredients
- 5 cups thinly sliced apples
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 3/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 pinch salt
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1 cup coarsely chopped walnuts
Temperature
- Oven: 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

Apple Crisp Directions
This recipe was found on allrecipes.com but with a few alterations and changes.

Step 1. Wash and peel apples using a veggie peeler, or an apple machine peeler. The peeler uses a vacuum bottom that attaches to any flat surface to prevent the whole tool from moving. The peeler has no electronic parts and is safe for kids to use (with adult supervision of course). The best thing is that it peels, cores and slices the apples at the same time! After all is done, my daughter also enjoys eating the long string of apple skin at the end which is a great snack to nibble on especially if the apples are organic and pesticide-free.

Step 2. The apples that are peeled and cored using the apple machine peeler comes out in large thin slices. Cut up the apples into even smaller pieces, like in the picture above. Toss the apples with lemon juice and water in a shallow 2 quart baking dish.

Step 4. Spoon the nut mixture over the apples to cover completely.

Step 5. Bake the apple crisp for 40 to 45 minutes until top is lightly browned.

Step 6. Take out of the oven and let the apple crisp cool for about 10-15 minutes. Serve warm or at room temperature with a scoop of Vanilla ice cream on top. Yummmm!!!
